How to get to the Institute?

The Institute for Experimental Mathematics is located north from downtown Essen and also north from the main campus of the University Duisburg-Essen. You can reach the Institute:

  • by plane:

    If you arrive at Düsseldorf International airport (DUS) you can take the local trains S1 or S21 to Essen main station. You have to validate your ticket (VRR - Preisstufe C) before entering the train. The ticket is also valid for the subway to the Institute. If you arrive at Frankfurt International airport (FRA) you should take a train to Essen main station. You have to get another ticket and validate it before entering the subway. There are stairs and escalators on the South exit of the main station which take you to the lower level and on to all local transportation. You can take the subway lines 106, direction "Porscheplatz". Get off the subway at the stop "Seumannstraße" (fifth stop after main station). Turn left into Ellernstraße, after 100 m (333 feet) you have the Institute on your left hand side.

  • by train:

    Follow the directions above from Essen main station. If you should arrive at the station in Altenessen you have to take the subway lines 106, direction Essen main station.

  • by car:

    Going South: Get off Autobahn A 42 at Exit Essen-Nord and follow Bundesstraße B 224 in direction Essen. After 2 km you have to turn left into Ellernplatz and then the first on your right will be Ellernstraße. Follow Ellernstraße for about 300 m. The IEM is on your right hand side.

    Going North: Get off A 52 at exit Essen-Rüttenscheid (resp. get off A 40 at exit Essen-Zentrum-West) go north on B 224 avoiding downtown Essen. You will see the main campus of the University of Essen on your right. Turn left onto Gladbecker Straße (B 224). Turn right onto Ellernplatz. The first on your right will be Ellernstraße. Follow Ellernstraße for about 300 m. The IEM is on your right hand side.
